Could there be a hidden room somewhere in your house? And just what would you find lurking there? Nate, his little sister, and best buddy Dan, stumble upon a hidden room during a sleep-over. What they find inside is anything but friendly. Includes the bonus short story: When Steven's Mom leaves for a mission to Mars, he's determined to come along. Even if he has to sneak onboard. And the Captain has a particularly unpleasant way of dealing with stowaways. When a game of Bloody Mary goes terribly wrong, someone might just die.

Praise for Monster in the Mirror "A very good short story. Written in an eerie enough way to make you to look over your shoulder and avoid mirrors for awhile. Well written and very easy to read. I didn't get bored at all. I also liked the song and the ending was awesome. Marie, Smashwords About the Author M. Excerpt "I try ignoring the sound. Like fingernails on a blackboard, deep and violent. It's coming from the stairs, always from the stairs Looking for yummy human tenders, Admiral Nact-bauk invades the local school.

Zack and Zoey lead the counterattack armed with rulers, protractors, and dodge balls. They might have a chance, if Nact-bauk didn't gulp down the only teacher brave enough to stand up to him. Even worse, he forces Zoey onboard the alien vessel for dinner--along with a bucket of honey-mustard sauce. Zack will do just about anything to save her. If Principal Blathers won't help, Zack sees no choice but to 'borrow' the principal's car.

Chasing the alien saucers, he meets up with a wrinkly WWII hero who thinks he knows the alien's weakness: Wielding only umbrellas and battery-powered dental weapons, things look grim. Even if the pair manage to rescue Zoey, there's the small matter of escaping a spacecraft flying at over two hundred miles an hour. Can you say, Jetpacks? I laughed a lot and kept quoting things in the book to my mom. There were even pictures in Zack and Zoey, which I thought was awesome. I can't wait for another MJ Ware book to come out The writing is great and easy and the graphics are a blast to look at.

This read will get you lost in a world full of entertainment that just comes to life. Ten Tales for Tweens - Fantastic Short Stories for Middle Grade Readers MJ Ware In this collection of stories from ten groundbreaking authors of fiction for year olds, explore new worlds and discover the surprises that lie just beneath the surface of everyday places.

In these tales, you'll read about: Ware's tales are told in a pleasantly chatty first-person style, the voice convincingly that of a young teen put-upon by sisters, brothers, parents, friends and the rest of the world Hide-n-Go Coffin tells of a little brother trying to prove he's big and strong. But there's a very modern twist waiting when he innocently slips into traditionally scary danger. Brother's Keeper is the haunting tale of a boy obsessed with blaming his brother for everything; this dark winter's night holds horrors definitely not for the younger kids.

Let's make this age 8 plus. Then Grandpa's Suits, rather pleasingly, changes the voice to that of a teenage girl, making this a delightful collection to read with a group. The author provides a truly scary spin on the popular game of spin-the-bottle, and ends the collection by inviting readers to sign up for his mailing list or look for his novels. And then you can go to his website, if you dare Or, if you want a slightly longer read, there's Monster in the Mirror, another fine collection of scary stories which includes poor Steven's tale.

I was sent an ecopy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review. One person found this helpful 2 people found this helpful. These short stories are well written with the exception of the last story which contained a couple grammatical errors.

Jake looked over at me. Bloody Marcy — Mixing a game of Bloody Mary with a practical joke proves to be a deadly combination. I mention urban legends, because they tend to be cautionary tales and play on common fears, and those qualities are in evidence here. The writing is great and easy and the graphics are a blast to look at. I know it's for kids but I like Scary stories, I totally wish they would longer and really had an end instead of leaving you like WTF, but then again shouldn't complain that much I think for the age group there's good and it was a free download so. Unfortunately, I found a few grammar and spelling glitches here and there, particularly in the last story.

I had my 8yr old daughter skip out on the last one, just because spin the bottle content is a bit over her head: These would definitely be good camp fire stories, short enough to remember- but scary enough to make you uneasy in the dark. My favorite story was probably the first one, I wasn't expecting the outcome. Overall, whether you are 8 or an adult and like scary stories- These would be a good quick read for you.
